INTRODUCING THE GIN & TONIC

The Gin & Tonic is one of the most classic long drinks in existence. Timeless, classy and perfect for all occasions. And yes, we do indeed consider a G&T to be a cocktail, even if there are only two main ingredients.

Did you know that tonic water (or more specifically, the quinine within it) was originally used as a preventative medicine against malaria? Gin, along with sugar and lime were added to the quinine-packed tonic to make it less bitter, and the humble Gin & Tonic cocktail was created. We’ve come a long way since then!

MAKING A PERFECT GIN & TONIC

Making the perfect Gin and Tonic is all about personal preference. Some people like a stronger gin with a 1:3 gin to tonic ratio, some like to load up their gin glass with lots of ice and fruit, and some like a flavoured tonic.

We recommend that you experiment with ratios, mixers and garnishes to find your ideal G&T. Try our preferred ratio of 50 ml of Beefeater London Dry Gin and 125ml of your tonic of choice and go from there.

WHAT DOES A GIN & TONIC TASTE LIKE?

A Gin & Tonic tastes refreshing, crisp and a little bittersweet. Gin simply isn’t gin without juniper. This gives it a subtly aromatic and herbal flavour, which is complemented by the unique combination of eight other botanicals in Beefeater London Dry. These botanicals are lifted by the bitter quinine in the tonic water, making for an invigorating taste. Trying out different tonic waters, flavoured gins and fruity garnishes will alter the taste of your G&T and give you endless flavour combinations.

HOW TO BATCH MAKE A GIN & TONIC

While making individual Gin & Tonics couldn’t be easier, there are occasions when you want to whip up a pitcher for your friends to share and enjoy.

To batch make Gin & Tonic, simply take your favourite jug and multiply the quantities of both gin and tonic accordingly. For example, if your pitcher will hold two litres, use approx 600 ml of Beefeater London Dry Gin, and 1400 ml of tonic. And it goes without saying that you’ll need plenty of ice and garnishes, such as lime wedges. Keep your batch of gin and tonic in the fridge for ultimate refreshment.
