INTRODUCING THE PINK LADY

The Pink Lady is a fun gin cocktail characterised by its pretty pink colour and creamy foam top.

The exact history and meaning of the name Pink Lady isn’t known for sure, but it’s been popular for at least 100 years, especially across the pond in the United States.

Our version of this sweet gin cocktail is made with Beefeater Pink Strawberry Gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, and of course egg white to give it that iconic layer of foam.

MAKE IT CREAMY

You can add extra richness to your Pink Lady cocktail with the addition of cream. This variation is sometimes called a Pink Shimmy, and it makes this retro gin cocktail feel like a real treat. Or go the whole hog and add ice cream for a milkshake-esque drink that makes for a seriously luxurious version of the Pink Lady.

THE HISTORY OF THE PINK LADY

The Pink Lady cocktail has a mysterious history with many theories about its creation. The most intriguing of which is that it was pioneered by socialite and interior architect, Elsie de Wolfe.

Popularity of the Pink Lady grew in the United States during the prohibition era, when it could help to disguise the taste of poorly made gin. For us, the cocktail’s fun pink colour and foamy top give us decidedly retro vibes reminiscent of the 1960s, although the Pink Lady’s history dates back from far before then.

CAN YOU MAKE A PINK LADY WITHOUT EGG WHITE?

Not a fan of egg white in your cocktail? No problem. Personally we love the silky foam that whipped egg white adds to the Pink Lady, but we appreciate that it’s not for everyone.

Luckily you can omit the egg white and still enjoy a Pink Lady, it just won’t have a creamy texture. Alternatively you can of course swap the egg white for cream to give a velvety texture without the egg. Or use aquafaba, our favourite vegan alternative to creating foamy topped cocktails.

HOW TO MAKE A PINK LADY PUNCH

Got guests coming? Make up a round of Pink Lady punch, perfect for Valentine’s Day, girls brunch or any occassion that requires a pink drink.

The best way to make it in bulk is by adding a mixer. Start by combining the gin, lemon and sugar syrup base. Then top up with soda water, ginger ale or cream soda to get a fizzy serve.

Alternatively, if you want to stick to the original recipe and keep the foamy top, you can make as much liquid as your cocktail shaker can hold, usually three or four cocktails worth.
