For a sophisticatedly simple cocktail, you can’t beat a Martini. Our go-to recipe for a classic Gin Martini is just two ingredients, stirred to perfection. It’s the recipe we come back to time and time again.

What makes a Dry Martini dry?

A Dry Martini is a quintessential gin cocktail that all gin lovers should have in their cocktail making repertoire. But what makes a Dry Martini dry?

Using “dry” to describe something that is inherently wet can be a tad confusing but in this sense, it’s referring to the amount of Vermouth in the cocktail. The dryer the Martini, the less Vermouth there is.

HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT MARTINI

This classy cocktail has only two ingredients, but several other factors go into creating the very best Martini, and the very best is what you deserve.

We like to use a ratio of 50 ml Beefeater London Dry Gin to 5 ml Dry Vermouth to make the perfect Martini. And don’t forget to put everything in the fridge beforehand, including your glass.

Shaken or stirred? Well we like to stir 007’s favourite drink with lots of ice until we get to the perfect dilution. Don’t forget a simple garnish for extra pzazz.

How to make a Beefeater Gin Martini

1

Chill

Chill your ingredients (and even glassware!) beforehand for ten minutes or longer

2

Stir

Stir your ingredients together with ice. This will dilute the drink.

3

Stir again

Keep stirring! Taste to check how diluted it is, and keep stirring until you’re happy with the taste.

4

Pour

Strain into a chilled martini glass

5

Garnish

Garnish your glass as desired- we like a small orange twist.

EXTRA DRY OR STRAIGHT UP

To make an Extra Dry Martini, you’ll need only the smallest splash of Vermouth – literally just a teaspoon full – but keep your gin quantity at 50 ml.

Some people also use “extra dry” to refer to a Martini without any Vermouth at all, so be sure to ask whoever you’re making the cocktail for before you begin. You’ve probably also heard the phrase Straight Up Martini. This means that the Martini is prepared with ice, but then strained into a chilled glass without any ice. Every Martini enthusiast has their own preference.

WHAT DOES A DRY MARTINI TASTE LIKE?

A Dry Martini typically tastes fresh and slightly bittersweet. The addition of Vermouth adds a pleasant hint of sweetness and a floral flavour which harmonises well with the botanical taste of the gin. Overall, a Dry Martini is a sophisticated cocktail with a slightly sharp, yet deliciously herbal taste.
