The Negroni is a classic gin cocktail. And whilst we love to stay true to original recipes, we also love mixing things up every now and then.

So why not stir things up with these Negroni twists. We’ve taken the classic three ingredients and given them a modern edge, Beefeater style.

Here’s our favourite variations on the Negroni cocktail.

Are there different types of Negroni?

The original Negroni recipe dates back to the early 1900s, containing just gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. But since then, there’s been so many different types of alternative variations, some of which have become classics in their own right.

Popular examples include the Boulevardier which swaps gin for whisky, and the White Negroni which uses Suze and Lillet Blanc to create a lighter, citrusy serve. The Negroni Sbagliato is another famous twist, pouring Prosecco in place of gin for a sparkling alternative.

BLOOD ORANGE NEGRONI

Orange works exceptionally well in a Negroni – the original recipe calls for Campari after all, a bitter aperitif that contains intense orange flavours among those of rhubarb and spice. If you like the orange tang, give this Blood Orange Negroni a go.

Ingredients

○ 30ml Beefeater Blood Orange Gin
30ml Italian Bitter Aperitivo
30ml Sweet Vermouth
Orange wedge garnish

Method

Step 1. Pour all ingredients into a rocks glass over ice and stir well until chilled.
Step 2. Garnish with an orange wedge and serve.

THE FROZEN NEGRONI

If you’re after a real showstopper then this frozen version is a treat for the eyes and the tastebuds. If you haven’t got the right kind of mould, just skip the freezing section and mix the ingredients as you would in a classic.

Ingredients

○ 25ml Beefeater Blood Orange Gin
25ml Lillet Blanc
25ml Campari
2 dashes Orange Bitters

Method

Step 1. Take a large ice sphere mould and fill to the very top with water through the hole in the top.
Step 2. Place the mould in the freezer for roughly two hours, after which gently flip the mould and leave for another two hours.

Step 3. Using a syringe, gently perforate the ice at the top of the mould and remove excess water from the centre of the sphere.

Step 4. Prepare negroni by combining ingredients in a mixing glass and stirring over ice.

Step 5. Use a syringe to inject the negroni into the sphere. The sphere can be left in the freezer for as long as one likes.

Lemon peel garnish
